An excursion of the tournaments of Belarus
Nowadays ultimate players have no questions about the choice of tournaments to participate. There is a wide choice – besides common terms: grass, gym and beach, you can play in winter snow ultimate as well as beach one. You may also choose a country you want to play in, the wide map of tournaments will soon allow you to go round the world playing ultimate in every country
That’s why we ‘d like to tell you a little bit more about tournaments in Belarus, its variety and levels.
During our excursion of tournaments of Belarus, you shall visit two cities, learn about three types of ultimate and, we hope, send your bids for the tournaments you shall be interested in :)
1. The first visit is to the tournament that takes place in January in Minsk – this is the annual international ultimate tournament “Minsk*”.
Tournament information:
Initially the tournament might turn to be more a meeting of friends, when the number of teams was less and of course there is no comparison between the levels of those and present-day games. Within 7 years organizers developed almost a Championship from a small tournament, but they could keep kindness and warmth of the first meetings.
Nowadays the tournament includes two days of play in three large gyms in Minsk. The women division is indicative of the tournament level. In 2011 it consisted of 8 teams from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine!
An integral part of the tournament is a party with festive atmosphere that gathers all best friends!
This year the deadline of registration is the 25th of December, but already 5 teams are placed in the waiting list in the open division. Two teams from Minsk and two teams from Russia have already applied their bids for participation in the women division.
In view of the tournament level growth organizers decided to place second teams in the waiting list and their participation in the tournament depends on the number of available places in the lists.
You may see breath-taking games, have fun at the cool party, visit the beautiful city and have an unforgettable weekend on the 14-15th of January, 2012!

2. February is the time of offsite tournaments, and March takes one of the most positive tournaments – the Hat tournament in Brest “Opa, Hat”
Tournament information:
It’s a hat indoor tournament for players of all levels. Traditionally participants register, divided into teams, arrive and play with pleasure, relax at a party!:) Do you need more?
The tournament is the most suitable for this season, because all major indoor tournaments have already passed, the weather is still crook, but there is a wish to play – the “Opa, Hat!” – is the best decision! There is the mix division on the tournament that is the guarantee of good mood. Participants just enjoy games and weekend but it doesn’t mean that you shall not see the fight, intensity of emotions and intrigue. You will see everything, so be acquainted with the “Opa, Hat!”
As well as any hat tournament the “Opa, Hat!” is theme. The theme is always various and every team as hard as it can: a name, uniform, team presentation are discussed hardly on the tournament forum and then it turns to be an unforgettable fest! That’s why you should mark this tournament in your calendar in brightest color!;)

3. April – is the time of the most reckless and compulsive ultimate players! It’s a beach tournament in Brest! It’s not May…there is no grass and it’s rather cold, but everyone is tired of stuffy gyms and there is such an opportunity – the “Spring Beach Hat!” The tournament takes place at the end of April and joyful countenances of participants allow to confirm that you must go! Then this is the most reckless tournament as it gathers only mad players who are willing to run across cold sand without shoes in the cold April wind and rain, drunk and happy!:) It’s necessary to have: a thermos with heating drinks, warm clothes, a sleeping bag and good mood!

4. But in May everything gets more serious. Everyone puts on boots and gets ready for the annual international tournament “Brest Without Borders”
Tournament information:
Excellent fields, good organizing, warm and kind atmosphere, nice city, a party, the first ulti-sunburn, Belarusian hospitality.
The tournament takes place in the second half of May. At present it gathers one division of teams from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. Three women teams have to play with men, they still have a wish to participate in the tournament, but there is still hope for participation of foreign women teams and perhaps the year 2012 will change the situation, as the tournament can receive more teams.
The tournament fields are considered to be one of the best fields, participants have ever played on. But there is a disadvantage – gnats, but organizers provide with different insecticides. Organizers put their best to release teams from any troubles during the tournament.

5. Summer is the time of offsite tournaments and training for championships. And just at the end of summer there is the “Open Belarus Championship” that resumes the whole season.
Since 2011 the tournament became open and pretends to be one of the largest tournaments which will gather the strongest participants from different countries. The tournament fields are located within the city and have already given a good account of themselves. The tournament includes 2 days of play. The concept “Championship” itself shows the seriousness of the event. Participants come to win! But at the same time between the games players like play different mini-games which help to beguile the time while waiting for the next game. You may see the scale of the event in August 2012. The teams of strong clubs are welcomed.
The tournament is organized by the ultimate Frisbee club “x3”. Organizers mark THREE parts of the tournament:
The first one is good organizing that matches the status of Championship:
- the best fields
- experienced staff
- information support of teams
- sponsorship
- high-level teams
The second one- showy games of the teams which set themselves up for the fight and victory
The third one – as any Belarusian tournament the Championship keeps warm and kind atmosphere.

6. In Autumn Belarusians move to warm and cozy gyms. And the first winter month meets the annual home tournament “Winter Brest”.
The tournament information:
The indoor tournament is aimed at teams development and is ready to receive the players of all levels in two divisions (open and women). The tournament takes place in the middle of December in the luxurious gyms of Brest. Nowadays the tournament can receive 12 men and 6 women teams. This is the great chance for young players to get experience and for experienced players – to play in the pleasant atmosphere. Though the tournament is but the guests are always welcomed! Ukraine teams participation is above exception! So if you have an opportunity to come, believe it’s worth it!
The “Winter Brest 2011” will take place on the 24-25th of December, 2011.
